I had to add the following two lines in trac.ini for the annoying "can't synchronize with the repository" message to disappear!

[components]
tracext.git.* = enabled

For windows, you will need to point the git_bin to somethinge like C:\Program Files\Git\bin\git.exe . Don't use C:\Program Files\Git\cmd\git.cmd since it seems substantially slower.

I created the git repositories with :

cd /var/git/whatever.git
git init --bare

This removes the requirement for you to put the '/.git' on the end of the repository path.

For me python 2.6 doesn't work. When I run this:
tracd --port 8000 trac2/

I get this message in the web browser:

Warning: Can't synchronize with the repository (Unsupported version control system "git": Can't find an appropriate component, maybe the corresponding plugin was not enabled? ). Look in the Trac log for more information.

To fix that install python 2.5:
sudo aptitude install python2.5

Then execute the tracd with python 2.5:
python2.5 /usr/bin/tracd --port 8000 trac2/
